Comedian Jamie Kilstein thinks we shouldn’t joke about violence against women. That view got him notably shunned from the comedy community; other famous comedians weighed in, called him names, it was a whole thing. As a result, he lost a TV deal, promotional gigs, and friends — all because he said rape jokes are bad.
My image has been stolen and being used on Facebook diet ads for a company called Venus Factor. These ads are running throughout Facebook from more sources that I can report and have removed. My coworkers, friends and family are seeing these ads pop up. The company won’t help me on Facebook and told me to email them more, I already emailed them twice. So let’s send them some email!
Tell them why we won’t stand to have our image stolen for the profit of diet companies.
Fatties roll out!
This is so disgusting. Please email this company.
This is disgusting and beyond wrong. Send some emails, make sure they hear that we WILL NOT tolerate this kind of behavior!
Companies ARE NOT allowed to use images of fat people without their consent FOR ANY REASON. THIS IS WRONG, AND THEY MUST BE TOLD SO.
I have just warned these assholes that the fatties of Tumblr are about to descend like a pack of rabid, fatassed wolves. DO NOT PROVE ME WRONG.
These people already profit from the pain and insecurity of people who should not be ashamed. They do not get to use other people’s photos and bodies to do this without explicit permission.
For those who have a hard time figuring out what to say, here’s what I sent; feel free to borrow bits, pieces, or the whole damn thing to help you craft your email to this gross-ass company.
Your cowardly refusal to take responsibility for your affiliates’ use of stolen photos to hawk your product is utterly inexcusable. The fact that it happened, is bad enough, but your repeated attempts to weasel out of taking action and giving Rachel the runaround (http://rachelecateyes.tumblr.com/post/78983486349/my-image-has-been-stolen-and-being-used-on) is even worse. You shouldn’t need to hear the specific words of “These are affecting my personal and professional life etc.” before you’ll (finally, grudgingly, slowly) take action. The words “Your product is being marketed using my images, without my consent or foreknowledge” should be enough - and WOULD be enough, for any ethical company. Your behavior in this matter has been incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate. And, of course, the fact that it’s become this much of an issue, and your ridiculous mishandling of the situation, makes me wonder how many other people are out there being used by your product and your affiliates in this degrading, shameful way without their consent? How DARE you - and your affiliates, since you seem inclined to try to shove responsibility off onto them for all of this - use the lives and bodies of people without their consent, to market a product whose message is in essence “See this person? Buy our product to avoid looking like them!” It is demeaning, it is disgusting, and no human being deserves to be maliciously held up as a scare tactic to shame other people into buying a product, without even being consulted on the use of their images in such a fashion.Remove Rachel’s image from your marketing, and/or remove any affiliate from your marketing scheme who continues to use her photos, and make it entirely clear to your affiliates and all marketing associates that you will not tolerate image theft and abuse of people’s personal images in any marketing capacity. This is unacceptable, and I look forward to seeing you take public, concrete steps to rectify the situation.Thank you,Jadelyn
Reblogging for the sample letter.
Women of the KKK, 1923.
No one can honestly tell me that this isn’t something that looks like it is straight out of the demonic mind of a scary movie producer. Sadly, it’s not. This is a real photograph taken of the female KKK members in 1923 ( just incase you thought white women were innocent ). As I stare at this picture my heart mourns for every strong POC, no not just those of African diaspora because we all know the KKK despises all us POC, they lived during the arguably the worst time for POC in America. They had no laws that could protect them or even had the chance to defend themselves in court like what we are rightfully and deservingly given today. Take a moment to pray (whatever your religion) for the souls of those affected by pre desegregation. Take a moment to thank those who lost their sons, daughters, Etc in the fight to be able to walk outside in broad daylight and not get lynched. Will racism ever end? I don’t know, but what I do know is that no one should have to put up with it as an every day nightmare. No matter what your ethnicity is we MUST stick together, for together we are strong. I dream of a day these people may never hurt our children.

this shit looks like american horror story
it was the black american horror story
My alma mater, Smith College, had a chapter of the KKK until the 1930s, thought we generally pretend it wasn’t the case. The myth of white female innocence with regards to systemic racial oppression is so pervasive it’s ridiculous.
white women are not and have never been passive victims of the white supremacist patriarchy, they are active enforcers of racial oppression as means of holding shared privilege with their white male counterparts
I’d like to post an alternate link with a pro-SCA5 perspective from Asian-American activist Jenn Fang. I think people should read through this issue very carefully before making any determinations.
Nearly twenty years ago, California voters passed Proposition 209, a ballot measure that effectively outlawed affirmative action in state-run institutions. Among other effects of Prop 209 was the loss of affirmative action policies — the ability for college admissions officers from being able to consider race among other application criteria — in the state-wide UC college system.
Prop 209 has had a devastating effect on UC schools: Black, Latino, Native American, Southeast Asian American and Pacific Islander admission rates have dropped precipitously relative to the pace of their population growth over the last twenty years, resulting in a public, taxpayer-funded university system that has effectively excluded many of the state’s underrepresented minority community — roughly 45% of the state’s total population — from access to quality secondary education.
Currently, the California House and Senate are considering Senate Constitutional Amendment 5 (SCA5), a bill that would create an exemption for public education from Prop 209, re-empowering the UC system to once again employ reasonable affirmative action policies in their admissions process. Should SCA5 pass the California Senate later this year, it will be put on the November ballot for public consideration. Passage of SCA5 is anecessary first step to restore access and equality for California’s underrepresented minorities to a college education.
Unfortunately, although 61% of Asian American voters in California voted against Proposition 209 in 1996 to protect affirmative action, recent efforts by conservative Asian Americans — predominantly Chinese American non-profits and news outlets — have resulted in a widespread campaign of misinformation and outright fear over SCA5 in many Asian American voters.
To set the record straight, here are the top 5 myths — and facts — about SCA5, and why you should support it.
White privilege is complaining when a black man is cast as a canonically white superhero, but when a canonically PoC character is whitewashed you defend it with reasons like “maybe the white actors who auditioned were simply more talented” and “ugh why do PoC have to make everything about race?!!”
Oh—you wouldn’t date a girl who’s ever been a stripper?
In that case, I wouldn’t date a guy who’s ever been to a strip club.
Oh—you wouldn’t date a girl who’s ever done porn?
In that case, I wouldn’t date a guy who’s ever watched porn.
You’re the reason we exist.
You’re the demand to our supply.
If you disdain sex workers, don’t you dare consume our labor.
As they say in the industry, “People jack off with the left hand and point with the right.”
I don’t know what you mean by “lucky like white people”. I think firstly you need to realise that white Europeans where not “lucky”. They were brutal, violent and just plain sick. They made a choice to have no respect for humanity, and had absolutely no morals at all. The reason they were successful in colonising the world and enslaving black people was because they enacted a level of brutality and savagery that honestly I will never be able to fully understand. It is also important to understand that these ideas of superiority did not suddenly spring out of thin air. I mean if you study European history and look events like the crusades you can see that these ideas were always present in their culture.
Black people were in already in their lands living great lives before colonialism. My ancestors (well my maternal ancestors) were living happily in Yorubaland. We had technology, education and innovation and we didn’t feel the need to go around slaughtering people, destroying their homelands and cultures and enslaving them. Do you really think Africa was one large barren and poverty stricken wasteland prior to colonialism? There was vast amounts of power pre-colonial times, for example, the Kongo Kingdom, it used to be huge and vast empire, it was also big centre for trade with the Portuguese. All of this was ruined of course when King Leopold of Belgium decided to completely destroy the country and kill and mutilate large amounts of the population. Before imperialism and slavery, did we go around killing and raping your ancestors? Stealing your land and ignore the rights of your people’s? Did we rape your ancestors, deny them their humanity, and enslave them? Did we go around cutting off the arms and legs of men, women and children in your nations? When African people’s used to travel to Europe they didn’t go to conquer and capture, they went and contributed to society, shared ideas and spread technology.
There is a big difference between people doing terrible things for power (which of course is wrong) and people being just plain sick, which is what the white Europeans were. It is only a total lack of any single shred of morality which allowed them to do what they did. The savagery and brutality that was enacted is not some reflection of some great human flaw, it’s a consequence of deliberate actions and choices that were made and taken by the white people.
Really please stop trying to invalidate words like transmisogyny and misogynoir because your shitty feminism erases the specific ways that certain groups experience misogyny due to their various intersections.
• a transphobic woman is not a feminist
• a racist woman is not a feminist
• a homophobic woman is not a feminist
• exclusionary feminism is not feminism
so the ancient egyptians described themselves as black, the art they did of themselves depicts them as black, other peoples they came in contact with described them as black… but somehow to hollywood this doesn’t conclude that they were black
lol mental gymnastics of white people and whitewashers
'Upskirt Pics' Banned After Outcry Following Ruling
"Fueled by public outcry, a bill to outlaw what’s known as "upskirting,” the practice of secretly snapping certain sexual photos, rocketed through the Massachusetts Legislature Thursday in an extraordinary show of legislative will.
The uncommon speed of the bill was a marked shift for the Legislature, which often moves at a deliberate and sometimes glacial pace, but lawmakers said outrage over a Supreme Judicial Court ruling the day before spurred the quick action.
"It is sexual harassment; it’s an assault on another person," Senate President Therese Murray said of the secret photography and other acts of sexual survelliance that the bill aims to prohibit. "Women and children should be able to go to public places without feeling that they are not protected by the law.""* Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz and Eboni K Williams break it down on The Young Turks.
The South Dakota House passed a bill that would ban abortions based on the sex of the fetus, also called “sex-selective” abortions, according to an article in Mother Jones.
Lawmakers claim the bill is necessary because Asian immigrants, who they say don’t value woman and girls, are coming to their state. The Asian American community grew more than 70 percent in South Dakota in the last 10 years, according to the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF).
In the Mother Jones article, Stace Nelson, a Republican state representative running for the U.S. Senate, is quoted as saying, “Many of you know I spent 18 years in Asia … And sadly, I can tell you that the rest of the world does not value the lives of women as much as I value the lives of my daughters.”
NAPAWF launched a campaign today to take action to stop the passing of the bill, HR 1162.
"The racism and the stereotypes and the stigma is laid so bare here," said Miriam Yeung, executive director of NAPAWF, told Mother Jones. The group has long argued that that sex-selective abortion bans perpetuate negative stereotypes about Asian American women. “We’ve been saying that these bills are wolves in sheep’s clothing. But in this case, I think the wolf has left off the sheep’s clothing.”
NAPAWF asks you to sign their petition here: “Don’t let South Dakota pass a racist anti-abortion bill!”

Just when you think anti-choicers have reached peak absurdity, they manage to prove you wrong.
This bill is disgusting, please sign the petition. It only takes a few seconds.
1000x better than “It Gets Better.” Stop lying to kids, it doesn’t get better unless we make it better, and we can only make it better by utterly destroying heteropatriarchy.
*destroying racist ableist (all the -ists) heteropatriarchy (kyriarchy?)
THANK YOU. “It Gets Better” was a well-intended but incredibly problematic campaign. It will NOT “get better” until we MAKE IT better.
I refuse to be told “It Gets Better” by a man who blames homophobia on poc and has publicly ridiculed bisexual people and trans* women.
Can ‘we will make it better’ become a legit movement? Please? We desperately need a well-known lgbt+ movement that doesn’t erase or mock the lesser-known identities
Comments on the trailer of the new Annie movie staring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx.
Would you just look at how racism isn’t a thing in today’s society.
White people being progressive as usual. No racism to see here.
I want heads ….. I want their fucking heads …. fuck these monsters
And yet, all you white people keep yelling about how POC representation in the media doesn’t matter if any black or person of color asks why there isn’t any POC character in a TV show or movie. Come a movie starring a black girl in the lead, and then you white people are screaming for representation of a white girl.
Look, I’m glad ‘12 Years [A Slave]’ got made and it’s wonderful that people are seeing it and there is another view of what happened in America. But I’m not real sure why Steve McQueen wanted to tackle that particular sort of thing.
[‘Fruitvale Station’] explains things like the shooting of Trayvon Martin, the problems with stop and search, and is just more poignant. America is much more willing to acknowledge what happened in the past: ‘We freed the slaves! It’s all good!’ But to say: ‘We are still unnecessarily killing black men’ – let’s have a conversation about that.
Samuel L. Jackson (via artyartyhadaparty)
I think in light of 12 Years a Slave winning the Oscar for Best Picture, this needs to be remembered. Because it is a very important point in terms of the palatability of 12 Years a Slave and why Fruitvale Station didn’t even get nominated when it has such acclaim outside of the Oscar world.
THANK YOU SAM JACKSON
